Having flown the 1987 Flare Stack first the 1986 Flare was flown with a test tail attached to the fitting point that Jørgen had set in the trailing edge of the sail.

When the kite had been flown previously it had felt somewhat unruly but with the tail in place it flew sedately.
The plan was to try the 1988 Flare with a tail as well.
