Notes...
Poly tubing for wide spreaders fixing replaced. Replacement dowel purchased 08/2019. Major un-twisting done 12th February 2020
Parts reviewed in image above prior to Portsmouth 2021.
The dihedrals are 8mm for the spine and should be the same for the spars. We will consider replacing the dihedrals as shaving down replacement spars is not ideal.
All the elements have been measured 'for the record' as at 12th September 2023. The 1:1 drawing has been done in CADintosh X and smaller versions exported for illustration. A diagram of bridling line lengths is being prepared.

A speedy assembly in approximately 20 minutes...
The windspeed was in the comfortable speed range for the stack...
Breaking the stack down was also a smooth operation thanks to some well practiced assistance.

The two stacked kites were prepared for the afternoon session, launched together and walked into the arena.

The JMH Double Malay Stack was prepared for launch.
Preparation of this set seemed to go well even if a bit of a struggle at times. An issue with the last pair caused by attempting an additional anchor point then seemed to cause failure in two more of the carbon wide spreaders.
The short sections of carbon rod between the two aluminium tube lengths in each spreader was one point of failure so only one long rod was broken.

It was marginal wind for the launch in the central arena after some very kind help from other kite fliers in 'untangling' the stack.
A quick exit from the arena then became a gentle walk into the breeze initially but then in gradual steps we moved back down wind close to the arena.
Various fliers took the bar and I finally walked it back to our base.
Preparations for flight and walkabout captured by Franca Perletti.
We gradually made our way back to close by the arena where various kitefliers took the bar before the stack was walked back to our base.
Portsmouth, 7th-8th August 2021.
Setting up and launching the Double Malay stack was a challenge in the high wind. There were only a few broken spars. This was the first time that we used top end anchors while preparing the sails for launch in the upright position.
Video of launch, flying and landing for repair. Thanks to Frances Anderson and Maggie Walker for video clips and Maggie Walker for preparation images.
The top end pre-launch anchor lines can be seen here.
It was a dark sky at times at Portsmouth.
