Cardigan 25th June 2022
The site is at Gwbert, near Cardigan.
The intention was to attempt to fly part or all of the Peter Malinski Hexagonal Kite Train from c1987.
An anchor vehicle was provided and we set about making preparations!
It was a sunny start but then the frequent blustery showers prevailed.
The 'impact set' central fixing points failed in a cascade in a blustery moment of one of the passing showers and so no further flight preparations could be made in the prevailing conditions.
The re-made pilot kite got a solid airing...
Close inspection of the fixing points back in London suggested a simple replacement strategy using fluted hardwood dowel.
The JMH Double Malay Stack was prepared for launch.
Preparation of this set seemed to go well even if a bit of a struggle at times. An issue with the last pair caused by attempting an additional anchor point then seemed to cause failure in two more of the carbon wide spreaders.
The short sections of carbon rod between the two aluminium tube lengths in each spreader was one point of failure so only one long rod was broken.
