A final visit to the exhibition...

I have really enjoyed visiting this exhibition over the last few weeks. The photo-works remain an inspiration even if I cannot realise the images I have been working on at full scale. I am now wondering about adding in some images without interventions in my own project!

The idea of looking and paying attention as indicated by Bernd and Hilla Becher is a good one.

Thomas Ruff was undoubtedly doing just that!

I have not actually established what is depicted in Komori 2025 but do not have any anxiety in this regard. The uncertainty of Hong Kong Shanghai Bank II 2020 and the ambiguous reflection in Apple 2020 are equally not a concern.

The crazy detail of Aletsch Glacier II 2024 will stay with me for a long time, I am sure!

Some of the other manipulation which I understand is involved in the production of these images will just remain as an enigma...

The small images are delivered almost softly and without much context.

I had not saved the QR floor plan and so was missing some details of exhibited works and I took the opportunity to walk across Hungerford Bridge having visited the Hayward Gallery this morning.

The people represented in Klausenpass II are very small.

There are also people in Montparnasse II along with the leafless trees.

I am enjoying this exhibition as anticipated but also in the scheme of my gradual rehabilitation to enjoying looking at art out of simple 'enjoyment'!

I was very excited at the prospect of seeing some Andreas Gursky works after being somewhat inspired by the 2018 exhibition at The Hayward Gallery.

The works on the ground floor certainly looked good today.

I was somewhat surprise to find Montparnasse in the lower gallery but quickly realised that it was a re-working of the original from 1993 and was missing the chromatic abberations in the earlier version.

The gallery notes suggest some technical intervention but I had been amazed at the original image capture.

This is, of course a new image, the trees have lost their leaves...

Even with the additional layer of photographic capture here the details are sharp.

The darker works are more difficult to see and the reflections really take over the image space.

Maybe the flat lighting is a good thing and I think that when I checked previously it has a reasonably complete illumination spectrum.

I'll have to check the earlier version of this work but the current one is populated by a surprising number of people whose images help to clarify the scale and configuration of the landscape aided by the alpine cows and their fence lines.

One person may be taking a photograph straight at Gursky's camera, the location of which may be a bit of a puzzle.

I very much enjoy the overall high focus of these large images allowing an exploration of the visualised space.

Sometimes the edges of depicted elements appear almost unreal and I am surprised just how well they appear when re-photograped as in the details here.

I will be visiting this exhibition again in the coming weeks.
