It is not often that I get to visit an exhibition on the first day. I had read a couple of reviews of the exhibition and anticipated some issues with the form of presentation.

Visitors were being warned about the dark interior and asked not to step on or off the 'stage edge'.

The roughly finished exterior of the exhibition space gave way to an interior with the 'bare bones' of temporary walls on show with fabric drapes as part of the exhibition environment culminating in a 'stage edge' where the exhibition invigilators had the task of preventing visitors from stepping on or off the stage!

The lighting level was low as indicated at the entrance and it is somewhat extraordinary that I was able to capture a few images. They are, of course, very low resolution!

The problem with the theatrical lighting, as I had anticipated, is that it both flattens the works and also distances them. They are almost becoming 'projected' images... as from a slide projector!

Re-cycling Tate owned works is fine, of course, but I will look forwards to seeing the paintings in 'real space' again when this presentation is over.

In the meantime, on exiting I stepped across the corridor to look at the Richard Long works again.
