Monday 29th September I had decided on a gallery visit as the previous week I had been to a concert and a lunch.

I did not find much of particular interest in this exhibition apart from the one Van Gogh from the Kröller-Müller Museum.

The other paintings that caught my eye turned out to from the Tate and National Gallery collections.

I have not been in this basement gallery area since a Monet exhibition which was not a good experience as I recall. There were very big gilded frames closely hung in a limited space.

This exhibition was spaciously hung but, as seems to be the fashion, with very low lighting in many of the spaces.

Today, the galleries felt very warm and that became a distraction. Overall the paintings seemed to be mannered rather than rigorously constructed from the base colours. I did like the framing edge in the Tate Seurat and may have noticed it in the past!
