I was keen to see this exhibition as I knew that there would be some large scale photographic images. My first visit was on Thursday 19th December 2024 and I will hope to re-visit the exhibition in the New Year.

I had walked through almost all of the exhibition before pausing here to assess this composition and the presentation.
The reflections are a general issue for large glazed works and the flat panel lighting in the South Gallery 11 is not too disruptive.
I was interested in the close-up view of the approaching ground and how it appears from a single viewpoint.
The scale of the three part work is challenging and I have only tried a gallery shot.
However a close-up view revealed the constructional element which I do find somewhat fascinating.
The idea that these works were inkjet prints was a small revelation!

Having found the constructional issue of course it leaped out elsewhere along with the reflections from the gallery lighting.

The depth of field holds focus on the 'subject' in many of the compositions and the areas that are not 'in focus' often have plenty of 'process noise'.

I was aware of over 'exposed' elements in some of the compositions although these were mostly contained within a certain 'ambiance'. There was often a keen sense of 'lighting' in the printed compositions.

I had not given a great deal of thought to the light boxes and although by their nature they do not 'require' additional lighting in theory it was present throughout this exhibition.
'The Thinker' clearly has overhead reflections. I had checked the overhead panels as having a full spectrum in this part of the exhibition but I was surprised to find that the output of the light boxes is severely limited.
The lighting in the main entrance 'corridor' is also severely reduced chromatically but the one printed work hung there was illuminated by additional incandescent lights.

Transparency in lightbox
230.5 x 248 x 26 cm
90 3/4 x 97 5/8 x 10 1/4 in.
The sharp vertical divide in this lightbox image has been precisely aligned to the division in the concrete floor.

Altogether a fascinating exhibition, thought provoking in all sorts of ways, not least in respect to my own photo project.
I should soon make the opportunity to view the large inkjet print that I have sitting 'on the bench'!
Out in the yard and the shard is being obscured by... 'new builds'!
