I was very 'excited' at the prospect of seeing a live performance of Steve Reich, Triple Quartet as a headline piece but everything else in the performance was captivating even if I was a bit damp after my journey to the venue!

In 1973, soon after arriving in London to study at St Martin's School of Art I went to the Miles Davis concert on November 19th at the Rainbow Theatre. There is a certain symmetry in going to see London Brew this evening!

I would not claim to remember much of the 1973 Miles Davis gig but tonight's effort did seem to be 'in the spirit'!
The slightly negative review of London Brew was from a Jazz Professional viewpoint but I appreciated the ensemble aspect of the show. It did not need individual showcases as far as I was concerned although I could sense that all the musicians would be capable of taking centre stage.

Doors at 7:00pm and I guessed that queuing would probably start at about 6:00pm. On this occasion I had company and we arrived at 6:00pm to find about 20 people in line. It was quite a long wait for the set that began at 8:30pm and ended just after 10:00pm.
The time flew... a very tight set. There were few opportunities for applause as Bill Frisell plays transforming sequences between compositions. That is the format for the previous performances that I have seen.

I had not planned a musical onslaught but immediately after the final concert I did feel somewhat overwhelmed by all the wonderful music I had heard. The notion of holding a memory of such events was certainly in my mind when I decided to make a record of the events. I was rescued by the professional reviews that I quickly found and have recorded the links on this page. There is a distict possibility that the links will expire so I may copy the texts at some point while I am able to do so!
